Neuroplasticity and Alzheimer's

I have had so many people comment on how "well" I do with my Alzheimer's. Well, they do see the outside me and not the one who struggles daily. I had a heartwarming comment on my Instagram post by a lovely woman who deals with her own struggles (don't we all?). I always have a link to the Alzheimer's Association and do not hid my disease. This is part of what she wrote:

"I also love that you bring awareness to Alzheimer’s. Because without that reference, no one would realize that you are struggling with the diagnosis. Yet, every day you show up and stand in your power.

You are a true inspiration for this community, and all the lives you touch each day. And a true pioneer and champion in your strength and journey.

What you are creating here in this space called Instagram, is a mentorship for others who may be struggling in silence, and a legacy for all those who follow you.....These words are felt so deeply in my heart, I am truly honored to call you my friend."

The fact is, I work VERY hard at developing new pathways in my brain. I am positive that we can all increase our supply of pathways. For example, when I got to where I couldn't do the checkbook any longer and found myself in tears month after month, I set out, very determined, to relearn how to do it. Now, this morning in fact, I balanced my checkbook very easily. I know the hours I spend learning and relearning thing takes a lot of my day but I have seen the results of those who just gave up...... not going there. Not yet anyway. There may be a time when I decide it's not worth the struggle , but I'm not there yet.

Alzheimers damages the neural circuits which is the reason for the cognignitive and impairment and memory loss. Neuroplasticity refers to the brains ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life.

Look it up. It is possible to develop new pathways, even in old age.

On a lighter note:

I've gotten back into learning more about using Procreate. I've used it for years to design my Instagram page and more but the friend above is now getting in to it herself so I decided that I'd better learn more about the tricks of getting better use of it. So, a class I am taking online had this fish for us to do. I'm pleased with the results.

Fish done in Procreate. More learning to develop more brain pathways.
